A Vision
JEWISH/ZIONIST EDUCATIONAL WORK

Education and Culture Fund

By educating the next generation of young Israelis of the importance of understanding the other, of a love of Israel and
Judaism, we hope to truly improve the nature of our society in the future. Merkaz Hashachar helps subsidize participation in
camps and activities of NOAM, the youth movement of the Masorti Movement. It also provides resources for the ever-
expanding Bar/Bat Mitzvah class.

PROMOTION OF TOLERANCE BETWEEN RELIGIOUS & SECULAR JEWS

Keren Kolot

Keren Kolot is our educational foundation dedicated to exploring new options in Jewish learning and expression. We host
groups from abroad as well as from Israel, developing innovative educational programs for new immigrants from the former
Soviet Union, from Ethiopia and for Israeli high school groups and families. In addition, every year Keren Kolot hosts special
groups of  children or adults with exceptional needs

THE HEALTH FUND

The Health Fund has purchased and maintains a fleet of small motorized personal  vehicles for people with limited mobility,
particularly parents of Ketura members. We are also instrumental in subsidizing therapeutic horsebacking riding lessons for
children with learning disabilities and developing the riding program for children and adults.

THE MUSIC FUND

Dedicated to the memory of kibbutz member Anne Lewis this fund has facilitated the development of music classes for children
and adults throughout the Arava, including the creation of an orchestra and a jazz band. We hope to aquire musical
instruments to allow adults and children more diverse musical opportunities. The Fund supports the renowned Music Week
performances, now almost solely comprised of “home grown” Arava musicians.

PROTECTION & IMPROVEMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT

In cooperation with the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES), we are developing alternative energy sources and
supporting recycling efforts in the Arava.  The AIES includes an accredited university level program at Kibbutz Ketura, a
research center and a center for public involvement. Visit
www.arava.org for more details. Merkaz Hashachar also contributes
to the activities of the Green Kibbutz Movement.

FUND FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

This fund promotes Higher Education for children of the Arava. Ketura’s oldest children have shown a wide range of interests
in the pursuit of college and university degrees. We are proud of all our graduates. Standing out are Benjamin Rosenthal who
has completed his doctorate in biology, and Eran Friedman who is now a licensed veterinarian.
